The House That Built Me
Ellena Osis, a 15 year music industry veteran, has always been surrounded by music.
Osis didn’t come from a musical family, nor did she ever quite take to those violin lessons – instead she learned how to love music through her parents - her mom was the Hendrix fan, her dad was the one telling her to take “War Pigs” (Black Sabbath) to 2nd grade show & tell. Her childhood was sound-tracked by Springsteen, Joplin, The Who, The Stones, Johnny Cash & Metallica.
When she began listening to Pearl Jam & Nirvana – her father handed her Neil Young, The Doors & Led Zeppelin – she started to dig deeper into music history on her own and there she found The Jim Carroll Band, Patti Smith, The Ramones, The Clash… her local record store.
Osis, a native New Yorker, became friendly with the local NYC scene in 2000-2001 – attending shows at Don Hills, Arlene’s Grocery, Coney Island High (to name a few). She began to listen to Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, The Cars, Elvis Costello..
It was during that time in late 2001 that she was offered an internship at Jive Records, working alongside longtime family friend + mentor Lorraine Caruso. Caruso emailed Osis asking “are you willing to dedicate your life, if so – call me” – making sure Osis was serious about this career change (she initially planned to be a English Professor, and was in the process of her thesis- which she would set aside.) She was & she never looked back.
Fast forward 15 years – Osis has worked at MCA Records, Mute Records, SONY/RED & in 2016 broke out on her own to create The House That Built Me – an artist development & consulting company.
During her tenure with those labels she worked with countless artists from Sigur Ros, M83, Goldfrapp, LIARS, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis, Andrew Bird, Ray LaMontagne, Charlie Mars, Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Courtney Barnett, Lucius, The Lone Bellow, Dawes, Cory Chisel & The Wandering Sons, Jose Gonzalez, Lord Huron, My Morning Jacket, Joseph Arthur, Bears Den, St Paul & the Broken Bones, Julian Lennon, Alabama Shakes, John Paul White, Nicole Atkins, Kishi Bashi, Robert Ellis & more. Her first number 1 record at AAA Radio, coincided with the artist’s as well – delivering Ray LaMontagne his first #1 with ‘Beg, Steal or Borrow’ in 2010.
“Over the last 15 years what stands out the most for me, is the trust from all these artists I have had the honor to work for & with – the trust to take their art into the world and tell their stories & watch them take life. House that Built Me was created to build on that, to continue working with artists that have a story to share.”
Osis resides in Brooklyn, New York.
